Abstract

Background and Aims: It is known that high-fat diet, induce hypercholesterolemia, deterioration of arterial wall, both morphologically and mechanically. Mechanical changes include thickening of arterial wall, alteration of arterial elasticity, contraction of smooth muscle, increase in sensitivity to pharmacological stimulation and increase in arterial viscoelasticity, i.e., arteriosclerosis. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of high-density lipoprotein (HDL)- loaded microbubbles- mediated shock wave sonoporation therapy on mechanical parameters of abdominal aorta with advanced atherosclerotic plaque.
