Abstract

High-cycle fatigue properties of Alloy 718 plate and its electron beam (EB) welded joint were investigated at 293K and 77K under uniaxial loading. At 293K, the high-cycle fatigue strength of the EB welded joint with the post heat treatment exhibited somewhat lower values than that of the base metal. The fatigue strengths of both samples basically increased at 77K. However, in longer life region, the EB welded joint fractured from a blow hole formed in the welded zone, resulting in almost the same fatigue strength at 107 cycles as that at 293K.
