Abstract

Beam guidance systems commonly consist of large steel dominated DC-magnets. For pulsed ion beams, however, the magnetic flux density in a lens needs to be constant only for a short time. Thus pulsed magnetic lenses can be advantageous. This is even more so, if strong magnetic field gradients are required.
