Abstract

A nonintrusive high angle-of-attack flush airdata sensing system (HI-FADS) was installed and flight tested on the.F-18 high alpha research flight vehicle (HARV). This system measures airdata using a matrix of 25 flushpressure orifices on the vehicle nose. Satisfactory results were obtained using all 25 ports and a symmetric subset of just 9 ports. The overall HI-FADS system design and development including hardware, air-data algorithm, and system calibration is presented. Flight test validation results are presented. Under moderate maneuvering conditions the system is shown to give excellent results.
