Abstract

AbstractUltrashort pulse lasers have been industrially available for a few years, and are increasingly being used in everyday production. They are very well suited for micro machining since they can be focused to an extremely small tool size, and due to contactless and athermal operation. But to compete with conventional production methods such as EDM, milling, punching, honing or grinding in micro‐drilling, cutting and turning, the laser beam has to be formed into a defined tool and moved over the work piece at a corresponding speed. The laser equipment specialist GFH GmbH has solved this problem by developing special trepanning optics that bring the laser beam into a highly precise circular path at up to 30,000 rpm. Specific adjustment of the diameter and angle of incidence is possible as well. The trepanning optics are used in combination with the established micro machining systems GL.evo and GL.compact that ensure high precision in the positioning of components as well as flexible machine operation.
