Abstract
A hierarchical group location tracking (HGLT) is proposed to reduce the location management cost for transportation systems in personal communication services networks. The HGLT performs global group location updates and local group location updates (LGLUs) to obtain an accurate user location. Small increment in the signalling cost due to the LGLUs results in significant reduction in paging cost. The HGLT is an appropriate solution in high paging cost systems.
