Abstract

Large-scale integration of renewables poses challenges for frequency regulation. To solve this, promoting multiple regulating resources in distribution network including energy storage systems (ESSs) to participate in automatic generation control (AGC) dispatch has drawn much attention. However, the following two problems have yet to be solved: 1) involving a large number of regulating resources increases the computational burden of AGC dispatch; 2) the degradation oflifespan caused by providing frequency regulation restricts the application of ESSs. With this inmind, a hierarchical AGC dispatch method with aggregated resources is proposed. The flexible regulating capability of regulating resources with similar geographical locations is aggregated. Then,a hierarchical AGC dispatch that combines the superiorities of the heuristics method and theproactive dispatch method is proposed. The life span protection strategy of ESSs is embedded toall eviate their degradation. Time-domain simulations based on practical data demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
