Abstract
Abstract A hidden Markov model is a statistical tool that is frequently used for modeling biological sequences. In applying it, a sequence is modeled as an output of a discrete stochastic process, which progresses through a series of states that are ‘hidden’ from the observer. At each state, the process outputs a symbol from a finite alphabet according to a given probability distribution.
