Abstract
The article discusses hearing loss and other damage to the ear by loud sounds. According to the author, sounds that lead to a temporary rise in thresholds for hearing may cause permanent damage to fibers in the auditory nerve, which may reduce a person's ability to process complex signals. Topics discussed include workplace noise regulations, audiograms, and auditory brain stem response (ABR).
