Abstract

The paper reports experimental results about HFO-1234ze(E) flow boiling inside a microfin tube with an outer diameter of 4.0 mm. Tests were carried out for vapour qualities from 0.10 to 0.95, mass velocities from 200 to 755 kg m-2 s-1, heat fluxes from 10 to 50 kW m-2, with saturation temperatures at the inlet of the test section of 15, 20 and 25 °C. From the experimental measurements, it has been possible to calculate the heat transfer coefficient and to measure the pressure drop. Present data, together with experimental data previously obtained at 30°C of saturation temperature, permitted to understand how each working parameter affects the thermal and hydraulic behaviour of the tube during HFO-1234ze(E) flow boiling. The experimental heat transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drops were also compared against values predicted by empirical correlations available in the literature.
