Abstract

A range-free localization algorithm using hexagon area is proposed to balance the accuracy of the localization result with the complex technologies for the distance estimate. The algorithm's name is HA (Hexagon Area) localization algorithm. According to the non-cooperative characteristic of PU (primary user) in CRNs (cognitive radio networks), HA does not require the cooperation between PU and SUs (secondary users). Seven SUs form a hexagon area. HA localization algorithm counts the area based on comparing RSS (received signal strength) values of SUs, and estimates the centroid of the area as the location of the PU HA performance analysis in terms of its localization error parameterized by distance between SUs presents at the end of this paper. Experiments demonstrate that the localization accuracy is enhanced a lot with HA as compared to other range-free localization algorithms.
