Abstract

For metal–insulator transition in PrRu 4 P 12 , we propose antiferro-hexadecapole order without breaking local symmetry. In the ordered state, calculated level schemes of Pr-ions show strong temperature dependences, which is consistent with recent experimental result. In addition, due to band gap formed by the antiferro-hexadecapole moment, system becomes insulator for half-filled conduction band.
