Abstract
The objective of this paper is to present an effective scheduling system for a flexible manufacturing cell working in a real-time environment. A generic scheduling algorithm for a flexible manufacturing cell system to minimize mean flowtime is first proposed. Then, based on the process-oriented cell characteristics, a heuristic scheduling algorithm is proposed with no in-process waiting to reflect some real-world situations. Numerical examples are given to illustrate methodologies. Computational results show that the proposed algorithm yields optimal or near optimal job sequence in a very short time, thus satisfying real-time needs.
