Abstract

Polynuclear Mixed-Metal Complexes. Preparation and Structure of [Mn111{(OH)2Co111(en)2}](ClO4)4Cl2·4H2O Aerial oxidation of MnII in an aqueous solution containing [(en)2CoIII(OH)(H2O)]2+ cations at pH ca. 7 gives the title complex 1, which has been characterized by a single crystal X-ray structure determination. Three bidentate [(en)2Co(OH)2]+ groups are coordinated at the MnIII central ion giving rise to a Jahn-Teller distorted octahedron with two long Mn–O bonds [2.139(5) and 2.155(5) A] and four short Mn–O bonds [1.930(4) to 1.965(5) A]. The magnetic moment of 4.79 BM is close to the expected value for four unpaired electrons at the MnIII central ion. The cation antipodes exhibit the configurations Δ(ΛΛΛ) and Λ(ΔΔΔ).
