Abstract

The air- and moisture-stable complexes [Ln{HB(C 3N 2H 3) 3} 2{O 2C 7H 5}] (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Yb, Lu, Y), have been prepared and characterized. The molecular structure of the ytterbium complex reveals a distorted square antiprismatic coordination geometry around the eight-coordinate Yb 3+ ion. The tropolonate ligand occupies a position which links the two approximately square faces of the coordination polyhedron.
