Abstract

The use of phosphonium-carbon-based PTC as a catalyst in water solution is here described and its performances are discussed. The synthesis is realized via a mechanochemical process in solvent-free conditions respecting most of the green metrics for a sustainable procedure. The heterogeneous phase-transfer catalyst is fully characterized and used for SN2-type reaction of NaSCN with variously substituted benzyl bromides. The reaction proceeds with high efficiency in the presence of 5mol% of catalyst in water up to >99% of conversion. The catalyst can be easily recycled without losing productivity providing a green procedure.
