Abstract

1. 1. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity and electrophoretic mobility were investigated in red cells of twenty-eight species belonging to different classes of vertebrates. 2. 2. All the animals revealed a single-band pattern except for brown-howler monkeys, chicken and toucan. 3. 3. The results indicate a marked heterogeneity of G6PD electrophoretic mobility not clearly correlated to the phylogenetic position of the species.
