Abstract

This article describes how agriculture in Denmark has gone through a process of intensification characterized by specialization, concentration and mechanization. The impacts on the landscape are mentioned. The effect of agricultural intensification on the landscape is shown in an example of a region in Mid-Jutland. In order to set up a basis for a discussion of the future of this landscape two different scenarios are made for the region. The first shows the most likely outcome in terms of landscape amenity, but this is hardly a desirable one, whereas the latter describes a more ideal landscape, albeit not one which is attainable within the present policy context. Finally, an integrated agriculture- landscape strategy is proposed.
