Abstract

Abstract In this manuscript we outline recent results on the synthesis of heterobimetallic coordination complexes involving bismuth and the transition elements using either bifunctional ligands or Lewis acid–base adduct formation as a synthetic strategy. Significant structural features in the molecular heterobimetallic species resulting from these two approaches are highlighted. The ability of these complexes to act as single-source precursors for the formation of advanced oxide nanomaterials has been investigated, and the potential of these complexes versus traditional methods for the formation of advanced ceramics is discussed.
