Abstract

The hetero-association of acetic acid and trichloroacetic acid in CCl 4 has been investigated using near infra-red spectra. Equilibrium constants and the enthalpy change have been calculated for the homo- and hetero-dimerization reactions over the temperature range 15°–40°. Results indicate that the hetero-dimer (CH 3COOH·CCl 3COOH) forms in preference to the two homo-dimers.
