Abstract

AbstractCreep studies have been conducted on pure iron and iron alloys at high temperatures and in the stress range where the Herring‐Nabarro diffusion creep mechanism pertains. Results are presented which show that the diffusion coefficient of pure iron in the δ‐phase agrees within experimental error with the radio‐tracer value and that nitrogen and phosphorus in dilute solid solution enhance the self‐diffusivity of pure iron. The self‐diffusion of iron in the presence of 3.5% Si is expressed by .
