Abstract
Many Hermes spaceplane communication and navigation needs can be met with existing, under development and planned means such as domestic satellites, global positioning system and European data relay satellites. This paper presents the first preliminary telecommunication architecture of the Hermes system, the chosen approach, major assumptions and main link budgets; a functional diagram summarizes this architecture with its links and nodes.
