Abstract

ABSTRACTThe policing community across the world was deeply saddened with the news of Herman Goldstein’s passing on January 24th 2020. This paper provides a Tribute to Professor Herman Goldstein, founding father of Problem Oriented Policing. The paper starts with a collection of statements from many police scholars from around the world, capturing the significance of Herman Goldstein as an intellect, a scholar, a policy visionary and an authentic, caring man. I then turn to Mike Scott (Clinical Professor and Director of the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing). For Mike, Herman was a mentor, friend and colleague and he was honoured to give an eulogy at Herman’s funeral. With his permission, we have reproduced it here in full.
