Abstract

Professor A.V. Granato is widely known as one of the key scientists, who made a major contribution to the understanding of dislocation relaxations in crystals. However, it is much less known that he suggested the Interstitialcy theory (IT), which provides a new insight on melting, equilibrium/supercooled liquids and glasses in relation to the maternal crystalline state. The IT origins, its basic results and recent developments are briefly discussed.
