Abstract

This book is already a modern medical classic, and the new edition will be widely welcomed and used. The first edition, a relatively slim volume published in 1956, was based on a series of reviews of the five major heritable disorders of connective tissue then recognized that appeared in the Journal of Chronic Diseases . The new, fourth edition has grown to an appreciable size and weight. In part this is due to accumulation of further information about the major disorders, a process that has been stimulated by McKusick's writings and also by his personal teaching and stimulus within and far beyond the Division of Medical Genetics at Johns Hopkins. From Aberdeen to Teheran, former fellows have carried McKusick's learning, ethusiasm, and sharp eyes and ears for the loose joint, rare skin lesion, or unexpected murmur. In this edition, some disorders are given individual chapters for the first time: Weil-Marchesani syndrome
