Abstract

Installation art is a work of art that creates conditions of presence for the viewer to surround, enter, and feel objects directly. Installation art combines various media and art genres, so that they can include visual, sound, and kinetic elements. Installation art can heighten the audience's perception more strongly than other art forms. This research focuses on Installation Art as a Performance. The main object is Fermentation of Nose (2011) by Heri Dono, one of Indonesian prominent artists. The theoretical approach is art as a performance by David Davies (2004) and installation art theory by Claire Bishop (2005) and Julie Reiss (1999). The research uses qualitative analysis method of Matthew B. Miles and A. Michael Huberman. The study aims to find out how artist develop concepts and present the work as a performance. Dono builds his concept of work through the concept of fermentation. His creativity can be seen by the use of media manipulation to illustrate the idea to the audience. Installation art is created to provide a certain kind of viewing experience for the audience. Dono's work can heighten the perception and provoke the audience to think again about various issues today.
