Abstract
COPD, as it presents clinically, is the end result of pathogenetic factors that are in part exogenous but can also be in part genetic. This article examines the data now available on recognized predisposing genetic factors, with special reference to alpha) antitrypsin deficiency, mucoviscidosis, and so-called familial emphysema.
