Abstract

Herbivorous dinosaurs from the Kimmeridgian of Guimarota (Leiria, Portugal) include a probable brachiosaurid sauropod, the small hypsilophodontid Phyllodon henkeli , and a possible dryosaurid or camptosaurid iguanodontian. The taxonomic composition of the fauna is in general accordance with that of other Late Jurassic dinosaur faunas, especially with that of the Morrison Formation of North America. All the remains from Guimarota represent relatively small animals and, in comparison to the number of theropod specimens found, herbivorous dinosaurs are strongly under-represented in the fauna. This observation can probably be explained by transport sorting and differential preservation potential of the teeth of different dinosaur groups.
