Abstract

The text sheds light on the actions and on the role of the priest of the German Church in Malmo, Herbert Kuhn (1898-1977), in the time from 1930-1946. The analysis proceeds in three steps. The first part shows how Kuhn manages to provide a sustainable foundation for the young and insecure German parish and how he becomes the NSDAP's most important representative in Malmo. The second part traces how Kuhn, having been repatriated involuntarily from Sweden to Germany in 1946, rewrites his pre-1945 history and how the leadership of the protestant church in Germany negotiates Kuhn's case with the British occupying authorities. Finally, the third part presents a tentative evaluation of Kuhn's time in Malmo.
