Abstract
Regard as bryophytes, the number of works about these plants for the state of Maranhao has increased in recent years. However, to increase the knowledge of the species occurring in this State, it is essential to disseminate information concerning the data of the work done. The objective of this study was to list liverworts species recorded for the Maranhao and to increase the knowledge of the geographic distribution of the registered species, in order to have a view of the diversity of the bryoflora present in that State. The Samples were collected in different areas of the Maranhao, all species studied were deposited in the Biological Collection of the Professor Aluizio Bittencourt Herbarium (HABIT), at Centro de Estudos Superiores de Caxias (CESC), Universidade Estadual do Maranhao (UEMA). For each species, it is provided the geographic distribution in Brazil and the substrate colonized by these. It was identified 31 species, distributed in 13 genera and five families. 20 of these species are new occurrences for the State of Maranhao and Frullania platycalyx Herzog is configured as the first citation for Northeast region.
