Introduction

Liver is the largest organ of the body which performs several physiological functions. Herbal drugs have gained importance and popularity in recent years because of their safety, efficacy and cost effectiveness.[5] Plant materials are used as hepatoprotective drugs because most of them are inexpensive, because of their better cultural acceptability, their better compatibility with the human body and their minimal side effects. These herbal drugs have shown the ability to maintain the normal functional statues of the liver with or without fewer side effects.[6] It has been reported that 160 phytoconstituents from several plants have hepatoprotective activities.[7]
