Abstract

Three hepatic tests were studied in experimental toxic hepatitis in rats. The serum SGPT activity was found to be a more sensitive index of hepatic necrosis than was the serum vitamin B 12 level. Baier's “quinine oxidase” test detected milder degenerative changes as well as necrosis. The ratio of SGPT to Baier's test values appeared to provide a useful index in evaluating the character of liver damage. Serum SGPT determination and Baier's test were considered to be useful hepatic tests in toxicity studies with the rat.
