Abstract

<i>Hepatic and Biliary Cancer</i>is a compendium authored by 43 experts in the diagnosis and treatment, both surgical and medical, of hepatic and biliary tract cancer. This book provides a broad-based resource for practicing clinicians who deal with cancer of the biliary ducts and liver. The work opens with a historic overview of liver pathology and is then divided into separate sections on primary hepatic cancer, cancer of the extrahepatic biliary ducts, cancer of the gallbladder, and a "special considerations" section dealing with liver metastasis, transplantation, and future directions. Ample coverage is given to both epidemiologic and risk factors associated with primary hepatic cancer, in addition to a substantial treatment of radiologic diagnostic techniques. Perhaps more emphasis is placed on angiography than warranted, particularly in view of the rapid value that appears to be accruing for magnetic resonance imaging in the specific diagnosis of hepatic tumors.
