Abstract

It was May 1970 and Lebanon was warm and green from the plentiful spring rains; high summer with the onset of hot, humid days was still a month away. I was in Beirut for a couple of weeks, enjoying the hospitality of the Institut francais d’Archeologie de Beyrouth as a visiting pensionnaire.
