Abstract

The present study demonstrates the fabrication of Lawsone cross-linked collagen bio-scaffold for management of aberrant wound healing especially wound healing in post-surgical cancer margins. Lawsone reinforced with collagen resulted in increased thermal and mechanical stability, structural integrity, decreased proteolytic susceptibility and biocompatibility. It exhibited anti-angiogenic, anti-migratory and apoptotic effect selectively in cancer cells mediated by intrinsic increase of reactive oxygen species production in cancer cells. The biological properties exhibited by Lawsone cross-linked collagen bio-scaffold makes it a promising anti-cancerous wound dressing 3-D bio-matrix biomaterial for healing of postsurgical wound margins.
