Abstract

Charles “Chick” Hendry (1903–1979), professor, humanitarian, erstwhile poet, and Director of the School of Social Work (now the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work), University of Toronto, was a leader in Canadian social work education during the mid-20th century. His own education and decades-long career in youth leadership, administration, and postsecondary education began in Canada in the 1920s, followed by some 20 years in the United States, before his return to Canada and the University of Toronto from 1946 until his retirement in 1969.
