Abstract

Fourteen Spanish goat breeds were studied with regard to the hemotypes observed in eight blood loci (Ke, Hb, Dia, X, Alp, Am, Tf and Al). The number of different hemotypes per breed ranged from 58 (in the Malagueña breed) to 13 (Retinta), the proportion of unique hemotypes varying from 64.91% (Verata breed) to 28.57% (Zamorana). The N:H ratio (number of individuals to the number of hemotypes) for the population studied as a whole (1367 animals) was 7.35. The descending order of genetic diversity was Zamorana, Retinta, Pirenaica, Guadarrama, Blanca Andaluza, Canaria, Palmera, Granadina, Blanca Celtibérica, Murciana, Malagueña, Negra Serrana, Berciana, Verata.
