Abstract

In this study, Poincare plot analysis predicts volume status in conscious animal models of hemorrhagic shock. We examine beat‐to‐beat systolic pressure variability as a function of volume status. Archived data from 10 conscious sheep that were hemorrhaged from a catheter in the aorta then volume resuscitated are examined. Hemorrhage and resuscitation were followed by equilibration periods. All subjects survived. A major/minor axis ratio of the Poincare plot that is greater than 5 is a useful index of shock.
