Abstract

Fetal scalp blood sampling during labor to determine fetal capillary blood pH values was introduced by Saling in 1962. Its use has been recommended when an abnormal fetal heart rate pattern is encountered in order to evaluate the degree of fetal distress. 1 Persistent bleeding from the sampling sites is rare and usually due to coagulation abnormalities. 2 This is a report of very severe persistent bleeding after scalp sampling in a fetus with normal coagulation studies.
