Abstract

Embronic mouse liver was maintained in vitro under various culture conditions chosen in an attempt to favor the production of embryonic hemoglobin. Incorporation of 14C-amino acids into adult and fetal hemoglobin was measured. The data demonstrate that under all conditions tested, embryonic mouse liver synthesized only adult hemoglobin in significant amounts. The present findings support the suggestion that in situ mouse embryonic liver cells produce only adult hemoglobin.
