Abstract

Yakimoff and Rastegaieff (10) reported an increase in the number of eosinophils in chickens infected with coccidia and cestodes. Olson and Levine (5) observed that the total number of heterophils and eosinophils per cu mm of blood was much greater in chickens experimentally infected with Capillaria columbae than in uninfected birds. Johnson and Lange (2) reported a marked heterophilia and a severe but irregular monocytosis in young turkeys affected with typhlohepatitis induced by experimental infection with Histomonas meleagridis. Wickware (7) found a significant increase in the heterophils and eosinophils of chickens infected with Heterakis gallinae. The present studies were undertaken to obtain information regarding the differential leukocyte response in turkeys to different degrees of infection with Syngamus trachea.
