Abstract

Purpose: Nursing care plan is a scientific approach which nurses use in solving the problems that threatens the health or life of an individual. This was performed as a descriptivestudy in order to determine the difficulties that nurses have in using care plan. Material andmethod: Nurses who work at four different state hospitals on the Northwest of Turkey are included in thiss tudy. Sample was composedo f 95 voluntary nurses (61.2% response rate) employed in a state hospital in Turkey. Data was collected in 1st April – 30th May 2012. Obtained data was analyzed for number, percentages and chisquare test using with SPSS 16.0 program. Findings: 81.1% of the nurses use the nursingcare plan, 18.9% of them did not use it. 51.9% of the nurses reported that they have difficulty in using the care plan. While 62.5% (with the highest rate) of the nurses stated that they havedifficulty in nursing diagnosis determination, 50% of them stated that they have difficulty in data collection. It is stated that %50 of the nurses “sometimes” have difficulty in prioritizing care, 37.5% of them “often” have difficulty in planning enterprise and 35% of them “often” have difficulty at the assesment. It is determined that there is a statistically significant relationship between nurses' work experience, type of work, the clinics they work in and the difficulty they have in practicingc are plan (X=7.249; X=4.941; X=5.113, p<0.05). Conclusion and Suggestions: Nurses have difficulty at the highest rate in determining the nursing diagnosis at the stages of practice and preparation of care plan which is a scientific approach in care plan practice. Therefore, nurses can be offered to get in-service education for the process and stages of nursing.
