Abstract

Hemicelluloses were extracted from coconut shell by ultrasound-assisted alkaline solution of hydrogen peroxide method. Chemical composition and physicochemical properties of the hemicelluloses obtained were elucidated by FT-IR spectra analysis and molecular determination. The results show that the yield of hemicelluloses from coconut shell is highly dependent on the pH-solution, reaction time, and H2O2 concentration.
