Abstract
The hematopoietic stem cell collection from the patient is an obligatory step prior to autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This chapter describes basic techniques of both bone marrow harvest and collection of hematopoietic stem cells from peripheral blood. The specific and detailed aspects of those procedures in patients with autoimmune diseases are described, such as impact of CD34+ selection, use of mobilization regimens and risk of those procedures related to specific autoimmune conditions.
