Abstract
Hemangiomas of the fundus of the eye are rare. Nevertheless it is of great importance to know them, because some of them may lead to blindness or are part of a syndrome in which other organs of the body are involved. In this case the life of the patient may be in danger. Therefore, the clinical picture and treatment of the most important hemangiomas, such as the hemangioma of the choroid, the arteriovenous hemangioma of the retina, Leber's miliary aneurysms, Coats' disease and von Hippel's disease are discussed. The last three respond very well to treatment, but only when it is started early in the disease. Most suitable are the different coagulation methods, such as photocoagulation, (xenon, laser), cryocoagulation and diathermy.
