Abstract

A 12-year-old boy had multiple hemangiomas of the small intestine. Severe chronic hypochromic microcytic anemia (iron deficiency anemia) with occult blood in the feces due to chronic blood loss was a presenting manifestation. Resection of individual hemangiomas at laparotomy resulted in cure of this condition. The possibility of intestinal hemangioma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and of intestinal obstruction. Exploratory laparotomy appears to be mandatory for the correct diagnosis and cure of the condition.
