Abstract

For years, most persons with visual impairments have been considered "blind" regardless of their degree of loss. Recent statistics show that the so-called blind population includes many more partially sighted than totally blind, and expanding knowledge about low vision is making it possible to help these persons. Nurses employed in schools, industry, public health, or anywhere else in the community are in a strategic position to do case finding or help low vision patients with referrals.
