Abstract

Death is a universal reality that children cannot escape. The purpose of this article is to discuss a child's reaction to death, the need to discuss death with children, and a child's normal grief reactions. Children need adult assistance to move through the stages of grieving. Therefore, it is an important competency of educators to know how to help children cope when they are confronted with death. A list of suggestions to help us as educators, principles, and parents accomplish this sensitive task is included.
