Abstract

The purpose of this brief article is to set forth, for both the new and experienced librarian, some general principles, issues, and problem areas regarding effective writing skills needed for publishing a manuscript. The key to effective writing is practice. Several steps to success, helpful hints, and explanatory article sections provide guidance for better writing and more likely publication. A good writer prepares a manuscript that is reader-based (i.e., everything that is written is done with the reader in mind). Additionally, the manuscript should be purposeful, clear and concise, correct, and simple.
