Abstract

This article discusses the matter of the description of the hell in the work by Alighieri Dante “Divine comedy” as an artistic place. The researcher observes an artistic place as a synthesis of philosophical and sociological attitudes, religious and mythological knowledge, cosmological imaginations of the Italian poet of the middle age, comparing them with the achievements of that time. The researcher gives definitions to the toponyms of the hell used by Dante. The attention is paid to some approaches of the translations of the work.
